The First tower was one of the most exceptional renovation projects in La Défense.
First replaced the former Axa tower, increasing its height by 50m, creating a slender silhouette against the Parisian skyline and marking the entrance to the business district. This building blends into its surroundings due to the introduction of pedestrian areas as well as its strong architectural identity. The technical challenges of this project revolved around the demolition and re-construction of the central core as well as widening the existing floorplates. During the design process, particular attention was paid to the wellbeing of the buildings future occupiers. Spaces on the lower levels were reorgainsed, the entrance hall refurbished and circulations streamlined. The opaque façades were replaced and now let natural light into the workspaces while offering panoramic views over the capital. Terraces and gardens on the upper floors offer outdoor entertainment spaces. This project was awarded HQE Construction, HQE Exploitation, LEED Gold and BREEAM Inuse certifications.
